Rhys Millen Racing - Huntington Beach, CA - October 11, 2011
Rhys Millen and Team RMR returns to Irwindale, CA for Round 7 of Formula Drift. The final event of the 2011 season would prove that this team never quits resulting in a 2nd place podium finish.
After a successful 1st place battle at Round 6 Las Vegas, Irwindale was shaping for a strong finish to the season by qualifying 5th. Friday night would however make that a challenge after experiencing an internal engine issue durning late night practice. A plan was quickly formed taking the Genesis back to the Huntington Beach RMR Headquarters. Mechanics tirelessly worked through the night removing the engine out of the Pikes Peak PM580 and into the FD Genesis Coupe. Time was short and not on the teams side with just three hours until Top 32 competition starting, the V6 motor started to be dropped into place.
With just minutes from the start and 605 freeway traffic parting, Saturdays spectators were greeted to the Red Bull Hyundai Genesis Coupe lining up at the starting line for battle. Millen would produce a second place result making the teams 48 hour straight efforts worth every second.
Formula Drift 2011 produced results that showed this Hyundai can compete on the highest level of competitiveness.
